ASME B16.11 half coupling is designed to only connects one end of the pipe. Threaded half coupling require additional jointing materials like gaskets. Socket weld half coupling are generally used when connecting pipes in tight spaces. Half coupling can be flexible or rigid, and are constantly used in power transmission applications. Class 3000 full coupling is only socket weld or threaded at one end. other end of half coupling can be welded. Pipe half coupling come in size range 1/8″ to 4″ with 3000#, 6000#, 9000# pressure class.

ASME B16.11 full coupling is designed to connect two pieces of pipe together using a threaded connection or socket welding connection. Full coupling is normally used in small bore pipes such a oil & gas and power plants applications. Socket weld full coupling are normally used in applications where high levels of torque need. Threaded full coupling ends commonly in female of National Pipe (NPT Threads) or male and female British Standard Pipe (BSP Threads).
